target-marketThe Internet now is very different than it was just 5 years ago. 5 years ago things looked bleak. The Internet was like walking into a crowd of used car salesman each trying to get a hand in your pocket. Ads with jumping frogs and dancing babies were everywhere. What happened? The people spoke…and other people listened. The Internet has become what it was designed for; a vehicle to exchange information. Now we talk to our friends on Facebook and our followers on Twitter. We write business reviews on Yelp. We write blogs and subscribe only to the ones we find useful to us. I’m not saying that ads and commercialism to the web is gone. It is however more how we like it as opposed to how the commerce companies wanted it. Thank goodness.

The $500 Website.

I don’t know what it is about the $500 number when it comes to websites. I’m not sure why so many people think a website should cost “around $500″.  I think it may be due to a couple of reasons; it’s the company’s first website and they have no idea how much a website should cost, or their first website cost around $500. If their first site cost $500, it’s really tough to get people off of that number. Generally it’s because they don’t really see the merit in spending more. Their last $500 website didn’t really get them any business, so why invest too much money in a new one. Your classic Catch 22.  The amount of business you get from the web is directly proportionate to your website, and possibly the amount you spend on it.  If you tell me that anything over $500 is too much to spend on your website, it’s like telling me your company isn’t worth $500.  I doubt most business owners would think that was true.
